International Private School “Mavromataki-Mitera” organized the final dissemination event for the local community regarding the results of the Erasmus+ program "Maths through Music and Creative Movement," which they implemented over the past 2.5 years in collaboration with their partners: the Technical University of Crete - Laboratory of Distributed Multimedia Information Systems and Applications, Viksjöforsballeten, a Dance School from Sweden, and AMusEd, a Music School from Cyprus.
The event took place on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 12:00 noon on the premises of the Mavromataki-Mitera School. It was addressed to educators, education stakeholders, parents, and all interested parties.
The school's principal, Mr. Konstantinos Manolakis, presented the program's final products: the teacher's guide, the repository of activities and other useful material for teachers, the platform for distance education, and other educational resources.
The school's participation in these activities was significant. Teachers and students created videos with students learning the multiplication tables by singing in Greek and English, using music from popular songs. They developed activities in which music and dance contribute to the reinforcement of mathematical concepts (the rhythm of fractions, number stars, symmetry through the traditional Cretan dance "Susta," etc.). They informed educators and education officials about the school's contribution to the MOOC with a series of courses on the Binary System, Symmetries, and the theoretical framework of Multiple Intelligences.
The school's students participated in the in-person presentation of the program's activities. They presented a music-movement game involving rhythm and fractions, played "symmetric compositions" on metallophones and boomwhackers, danced the binary system dance, and by exchanging gifts, they made conversions from the binary to the decimal numbering system.
Mr. Nektarios Moumoutzis, representing the Technical University of Crete, a partner of the program, participated in the event. The event was broadcast online via live streaming. Representatives from Viksjöforsballeten and AMusEd (partners from Sweden and Cyprus) participated online.
The participation exceeded expectations, and everyone applauded the school's effort. Of course, the best reward was the enthusiastic participation and response from the children.
